Engineering Classes Compete to Design Lifting Device
Mr. Rodger Sharp's engineering classes were tasked to design a lifting device that would incorporate a compound pulley system. The criteria of the project also had to include a ratchet and pawl system. The students decided to build a mechanism called a shear leg to meet the criteria. They designed the shear leg on AutoCAD and tested it virtually. After the preliminary design was approved, they then had to build it themselves in the new woodshop. Two teams were formed from the beginning and they had a competition. The one who lifted the greatest weight won.
Winning the competition was the Engineering 4 team.
