West Branch Vo-Ag and FCS Classes Continue to Provide for School Cafeteria

West Branch High School Vo-Ag and FCS classes continue to cultivate hydroponic lettuce for the school cafeteria. Yesterday, the cafeteria served salad using two varieties of lettuce grown by students, Coastal Romaine and Green Star.  Students successfully germinated seeds, planted the sprouts, maintained water levels, monitored nutrients and light exposure, and harvested their crop. Students have gained valuable insights into plant biology, agricultural technology, and sustainable food production.  By growing their own produce, students gain a greater appreciation for the effort and resources required to bring food from farm to table. From seed to salad bowl, students have made this project a success.
