West Branch Students to Participate in Prestigious Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State Programs

Beloit, OH — West Branch Local Schools is proud to announce that Gavin Clay, Sophia Dorris, Alli Kanagy and Marshall Klemann have been selected to attend the 2025 session of Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State. These programs are two of the most respected educational programs of government instruction for high school students in the United States.

Sponsored by the American Legion of Ohio, Buckeye Boys State will be held June 8-15, 2025 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Buckeye Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary and will be held at Bowling Green University in Bowling Green, OH June 8-14, 2025. These programs are designed to educate young men and women about the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of good citizenship. Each year, high school juniors from across Ohio come together for this immersive, week-long experience in democracy in action.

Participants in the program learn the inner workings of government by establishing a mythical 51st state, where they campaign for office, pass laws, run city councils, and even operate courts and law enforcement. The goal is to develop civic leadership and pride in American citizenship.

Gavin, Marshall, Sophia and Alli, currently juniors at West Branch High School, were selected for this honor as they demonstrate leadership, academic excellence, and involvement in community and extracurricular activities.

Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State have a long history of producing future leaders in government, business, and public service. Among those are astronauts, senators, governors, mayors, judges and many more.
