Senior Standout Woodworking Student Completes Heirloom Project
West Branch Senior Susan Hulton Completes Challenging Woodworking Project: Handcrafted Tool Chest Inspired by North Bennet Street School.
Susan Hulton, a senior at West Branch High School has completed an impressive capstone woodworking project: a traditional tool chest modeled after those built at the prestigious North Bennet Street School in Boston. The chest, constructed entirely with hand tools and featuring meticulously hand cut dovetail joinery, reflects months of dedication and craftsmanship.
Susan's interest in this project was sparked when she realized she wanted to continue her woodworking in the future and needed a place to store her tools. She chose the North Bennet Street School-style chest as a way to challenge herself. The project required precision and patience, particularly when crafting the dovetails that secure the chest's solid cherry and hardwood panels.
