Ms. Wordeman's Medical Intervention Class Learns about Antibiotics

Students in Ms. Wordeman's Medical Interventions class worked to determine the negative effects of not taking your full dose of antibiotics. Students were given two strains of E.coli; the first strain possessed a chromosomal gene to resist the antibiotic streptomycin and the second E.coli possessed a plasmid to resist the antibiotic ampicillin. This is shown on Day 1. After mating the two strains, the ampicillin plasmid was transferred to the first strain to allow for the new bacteria to grow in any condition (as shown on Day 2)! Long story short, if the full dose of antibiotics is not followed, Superbugs can be created through conjugation!
