My name is Steve Mountz. I enjoy drawing, painting, and using photoshop. I graduated from West Branch in 1980. In 1985 I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts/Studio Graphics degree at Youngstown State University. I spent the next 18 years designing and executing ceramic tile murals and bas relief sculptures for Summitville Tiles, Inc., completing murals for homeowners, schools(WBMS cafetorium), government entities, and and corporations such as Anheuser Busch. I left the tile industry in 2003, working for Walmart and delivering pizzas on the way to obtaining an art education degree in 2007.
I greatly enjoy the outdoors, constantly clicking digital photos for reference and inspiration. Some of my landscapes are places I have visited, and others are places I would like to go- if they existed.
For me, learning about art is recognizing what you see, not what you think you see. Distinguishing between the reality of the colors and shapes and shadows that comprise images and the preconceived notions of what an object looks like in a student's mind is very important. I love when a student has a breakthrough project that tells them, "I get it!". It's an exciting time for them and for me.
