By the end of this unit students will be able to...

*identify and represent fractions .

* understand, represent, and locate fractions on a number line.

* generate two equivalent fractions, compare the size of two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator.  

*partition shapes into parts with equal areas.  Express the area of each part as a unit fraction.

*use standard units of grams and kilograms to measure masses and solve one step number stories involving masses.

*measure and estimate liquid volume using standard liters and solve one step number stories involving volume.
