Welcome to Mrs. Thrasher’s Classroom!

My name is Becky Thrasher and I am a co-teacher in kindergarten and fourth grade at Knox Elementary.  I received my Bachelor’s degree from Kent State University in 2005 and my Intervention Specialist (K-12) teaching license from Walsh University in 2010.  I completed my Master's courses at Walsh University.

My Teaching Philosophy

I believe that educating the whole child is imperative in order for optimum success.  I believe that it is critical to focus on academics and also support the development of a child that is healthy, safe, supported, and engaged.  I feel that children’s self awareness, self-esteem, social responsibility, relationships with others, and independence should be promoted in the classroom.  It is important that students have a strong support network of teachers and parents.  Parents are equal partners in their children’s education.  I believe children learn best in a positive learning environment where high expectations are set.  I incorporate many teaching theories into classroom activities including:  Social Cognitive, Social Constructivism, Cognitive Constructivism, and Information Processing; however, find myself most often using Vygotsky’s Social Constructivism Theory.  In order to support the whole child it is imperative for students to be actively engaged and collaborate among peers, which is indeed a facet of Social Constructivism Theory. I also believe that technology must be included in lessons due to our technologically driven  environment.
