Welcome to Sixth Grade Social Studies.  This is my eight year at the Middle School after teaching eleven years at Beloit Elementary.  I'm a graduate of West Branch High School and the University of Mount Union .  I received my masters degree from Kent State University.  My wife and I are on staff at Damascus Friends Church as Sports and Fitness Directors.  We have two children attending West Branch Schools.
Social Studies I is for 5th grade students introducing them to middle school Social Studies.  This class will focus on mapping skills, timelines, introduction to government, religions of the world and economics.  Social Studies II is for 6th grade students looking at the ancient river valley civilizations (Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Aztecs, Mayas, and the Incas).  Students will have little homework in my class, unless they are absent.  We use a program called Geography Alive and History Alive, which has students working together as they learn about the different people and places in the world.  We read some inspiring stories about people living in these areas and students will hopefully begin to develop an appreciation for the freedoms we have here in the United States. The last day of the week is for current events as we read from Time For Kids and discuss news stories from around the world making connections to our curriculum.
My classroom rules are simple: RESPECT!  You can find the assignments we are working on in classrooms on the right side of this page.  Students can use books and notes for most of our tests but I will list any assessments on these classroom pages as well.  Please call or email me with any questions or concerns.
