Welcome to Sixth Grade Social Studies. This is my seventh year at the Middle School after teaching eleven years at Beloit Elementary. I'm a graduate of West Branch High School and the University of Mount Union . I received my masters degree from Kent State University. My wife and I are on staff at Damascus Friends Church as Sports and Fitness Directors. We have two children attending West Branch Schools.
In grade six, students study the Eastern Hemisphere (Africa, Asia, Australia, and Europe), its geographic features, early history, cultural development and economic change. Students will have little homework in my class, unless they are absent. We use a program called Geography Alive and History Alive, which has students working together as they learn about the people and places in the Eastern Hemisphere. We read some inspiring stories about people living in these areas and students will hopefully begin to develop an appreciation for the freedoms we have here in the United States. The last day of the week is for current events as we read from Time For Kids and discuss news stories from around the world making connections to our curriculum.
My classroom rules are simple: RESPECT! Please call or email me with any questions or concerns.
