Daily Science Trivia
Fishing for Fun Facts
My 5th grade students will begin each Science class with a Daily Science Trivia question. As students enter the room, the question will be projected onto the whiteboard. Each student will pick up a trivia answer slip and will write their name, class, question number, and answer on the paper. Once they have completed their trivia slip, they will turn it in to the appropriate trivia bin.
The next morning my science trivia helper will check the trivia slips for each class. Trivia slips will be returned to those students that have indicated the correct answer and any trivia slips with an incorrect response will be disposed of. I will then choose one ticket (winner) from each class. The next day the name of the winner from each class will be announced. The winners for each class should see me during science class so they may pick a prize.
All students who choose the correct answer will be given their trivia ticket back. Not only do we have daily winners, but students can save their trivia tickets and redeem them for prizes.
5 slips = 1 extra credit point on a science assignment/test/quiz
10 slips = 1 piece of candy
15 slips = 1 pencil
20 slips = 1 Treasure Chest item
30 slips = 1 can of pop
I hope that students have fun with this activity and manage to learn a thing or two about science in the process.
