Damascus Elementary recently had a tremendous opportunity to host its own Winter Olympics. All students participated in an Opening Ceremony, Olympic Events, and a Closing Ceremony. Each grade level participated in a series of events (2 man bob sledding, cross-country skiing, curling, luge, and speed scootering). The students learned that the Olympics are about the world coming together as “One”. Also, students got to learn about and participate in different activities other than your normal every day sporting events. Students were able to keep close tabs on the medal count for the USA. During the closing ceremony every student received a gold medal and sang the “Star Spangled Banner” just like they were on the podium. As a special finale for our Olympics, the students cheered on the teachers who participated in curling.
