MEET MRS. COFFEE
I was born and raised in Waynesburg, a small town about ten miles south of Canton. I have one older brother who lives with his wife and two daughters in Cincinnati. When I graduated from high school, I moved to Athens, Ohio to attend Ohio University…. Go Bobcats! I majored in Early Childhood Education and came back home to do my student teaching in a second grade classroom at Louisville City Schools.
After college graduation, I taught kindergarten for Sandy Valley Local Schools. However, due to budget cuts, I was unable to stay there. The next year, I received a one year position in Lake Local Schools teaching third grade for a teacher who had taken a sabbatical. At the close of that school year, I accepted a job in Canton City Schools teaching kindergarten. Unfortunately, this district had to make budget cuts also and, once again, I was left looking for a job.
In the summer of 2008, I moved to Damascus and married a wonderful man, Ian Coffee. I was also blessed to receive a job at West Branch Local Schools teaching Title I for grades one through five. During my first five years at West Branch, I spent three years teaching Title I (at Beloit and Knox) and two years taking over classrooms for teachers who were unable to complete the school year. In 2013, I accepted a position teaching first grade at Damascus Elementary. However, when I learned of Mrs. Geiger’s retirement in 2014, I jumped at the opportunity to return to Knox and my favorite grade level, second!
Last October, my husband and I welcomed another member to our family, my son, Kason. He has already taught us so much in the last 2 years. It is hard to remember what life was like without him! I’m sure before the year is over, you will all have a chance to meet him.
I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with each and every one of you this year! I hope we can all work together to make it the best year EVER!
