Welcome to the start of another fantastic school year!
My name is ViAnne McQuilkin and I will be your child's second grade teacher. I'm sure I will be getting to know all of you through conferences and different interactions here at school throughout the year. However, at those times you do not get to know much about me. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about myself.
I am a former Knox student and a 1989 West Branch graduate. I went to Mount Union College where I graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education. I am certified to teach in the State of Ohio, Grades K-8. I have worked in the West Branch District for 17 years. I earned my Master's Degree in Education in 2001 from Marygrove College. I am married to my husband Scott and we have two daughters-Carli who is 14 yrs. old and Sydni who is 10 yrs. old.
I am so excited to be working with your child this year! I look forward to helping you as parents in any way I can. I will respect your child's individual differences and strive to have them reach their full potential. I will encourage your child to have a positive attitude and I will provide stimulating learning experiences for them.
My teaching philosphy is that I believe ALL children CAN learn! The interests and backgrounds of your child will be part of my curriculum and lesson planning. I will continue to seek the most current and effective ways for your child to learn, based on sound research. I believe learning is a journey. I will encourage the growth of your child more than the mastery. I will provide a risk-free environment which will allow your child to participate without fear of failure. I believe every child is gifted in some way and it is my job to find those unique talents.
I look forward to working with you and your child this year. I have an open door policy about parents visiting our class-in other words you are welcome at any time. Please keep the lines of communication open with me throughout the year because I can't provide the best education for your child without your support and involvement!
