In drawing class I emphasize original creations. These can be drawn from objects in front of the student, from a photographic reference shot by the student, from portions of other peoples photos,or from the student's imagination. Tracing of images or copying of someone else's artwork is not allowed.
Drawing class explores various pencil techniques such as stippling, hatching, crosshatching, contour hatching, scumbling, and soft shading.
I push students to utilize the 7 elements of art and the 7 principles of design to achieve a more complete composition, Perspective is also taught during the course.
Drawing an object or a scene requires one to really see proportions and size relationships between elements of a drawing, such as spacing of eyes, or the height verses the width of an object. These are things I stress to individuals as they work.
Student have use of pencils, pastels, drawing markers, and black artist pens of various sizes.
Because students come to class with a wide range of abilities, most of my grades are based upon the student's effort throughout the course.
