Knox Elementary One Call -- 8-15-18


Some important dates as we get the school year started:

  • Our back to school bash will be taking place near the MS/HS on August 24 from 4:30-6:30 pm.
  • Class Lists will be posted on Thursday, August 30 at 8:30 am.
  • Open House will take place on Tuesday, September 4 from 4:30-6:30 pm. You may bring school supplies in at this time.
  • The first day for Grades 1-4 will be on Wednesday, September 5.
  • The first full day for kindergarten will be on Wednesday, September 12.
  • Please follow our Knox Elementary facebook page and the West Branch website for more information.

WBMS One Call -- 8-13-18

Hello West Branch Middle School Families, 

This is Mr. Fowler calling with some back to school updates. 

Schedules for all students may be picked up on Tuesday, August 14th from 10am-2pm and again on Wednesday, August 15th from 2pm-6pm. Any schedules not picked up by Friday the 17th will be mailed home. 

Any new students to our district may request a tour of the building by contacting either Mr. Fowler or Mr. Young. 

Open House is Tuesday, September 4th from 4-6pm. 

Our first day of school is Wednesday, September 5th. 

Chromebooks will be distributed during the first two weeks of school. 

We hope you've had a great summer and look forward to seeing you on September 4th for Open House.

Good Evening, parents of WBMS students.

Please encourage your students to check their school email account for a technology survey from Angie Mulinix.  This survey will help guide the district as decisions are made for the future use of technology.  Please have students complete this survey by no later than June 22.

Also, for 5th grade students who did not turn in Chromebook chargers or shoulder straps for their cases, please deliver them to the High School office as soon as possible.

WBMS One Call 05-29-18

Please listen closely to the following 2 announcements:  One about the evacuation drill on Thursday and the other for 6th grade parents and the field trip on Friday.

West Branch Middle School will be conducting an Evacuation Drill on Thursday afternoon beginning at 12:30 and ending around 2:00.  Should your child need dismissed early for any reason that day, he/she must be picked up prior to 12:00.  As part of the drill, students will not be available to be picked up during the 12:00-2:00 timeframe.  The building will be secured and locked during the drill.  Parents, please discuss the seriousness of this drill with your students and the importance of full cooperation with the school staff.  Student pick-up will take place as usual at the back of the building beginning at 2:40. 

6th grade parents – change to departure time on Friday will be 8:00 instead of 9:00.  Please be sure your student arrives to school on time.


To:  8th grade parents and students who are attending the Washington DC trip this week

Students should arrive between 5:45-6:00 AM at the front of the building and proceed to the Cafeteria to drop off their luggage to be checked, then proceed to the small gym.  When their bus is called, students will then pick up their bags in the cafeteria and begin loading their bus at the back of the building.  Bus departure time is 6:30, so all students must arrive to the front of the building and drop bags in the cafeteria by no later than 6:00 AM. 

Thank you for your prompt arrival time.  We are anticipating a great educational trip!

WBMS One Call 04-25-18

This is a reminder that our Festival of the Arts Open House will take place from 4:00-7:00 on this Friday, April 27.  All students will have Art work on display within the hallways of the middle school with Art, STEM, Computer projects.  CBI students will have a mini bike on display and raffle tickets will be on sale for winning the refurbished mini bike to benefit the Jen Smith family in her battle against breast cancer.  Our Family and Consumer Science students are making desserts for refreshments throughout the evening.

The Festival of Bands will take place at the HS gym at 7:30 and the mini bike raffle drawing will take place at 7:45 that evening.

We hope to see everyone at the Festival of Arts this Friday!

Damascus Elementary, Knox Elementary & WBMS 4-18-18

Due to technical difficulties with the state testing system, we had to reschedule English Language Arts testing for a later date. Knox and Damascus will make-up their 4th grade English Language Arts test on Monday, April 23rd. West Branch Middle school will make up their English Language Arts test on Monday, April 23 for grades 7 & 8.

To be clear, this was an issue with the Ohio Department of Education and their testing vendor. Schools all across the state were experiencing the same issue. We waited until 10am to attempt testing but as of that time, the testing site was still down.

WBHS One Call 4-15-18

Please remember that you will be using your personal Chromebook on Monday for testing.  PLEASE MAKE SURE IT IS CHARGED.  There is no need to bring ear buds for Monday's test.  You will need a pencil, as you are able to write notes and outlines on a blank sheet of paper (provided).

We will begin testing at 7:35.  There will be no INVEST.  Please report straight to the fieldhouse lobby or your designated teasting location.  You all will eat lunch 5A and begin the second part of your test 5 B.

Your English test is Monday.  You will also be testing Algebra this year and your test for Algebra is on Tuesday, May 1st.  You will also need your Chromebook charged for this test.

Eat a good breakfast Monday morning.  Again, bring your CHARGED Chromebook and pencils for the test on Monday.  Good luck!
WBHS One Call 3-16-18

In light of recent events and in order for West Branch High School to take additional actions to further ensure the safety and well-being of all students the following will take place next week:

Effective Monday, March 19th, all book bags are to be put in your locker upon arrival to school and remain there until dismissal.  This item can be found on page 10, item #10 in your student handbook.  Students bringing sporting equipment or large projects to school should meet with their coach or teacher to make necessary arrangements.  Failure to leave your book bag or sports equipment in your locker or in the locker room will result in disciplinary actions.  If you have forgotten your locker combination, stop in the main office in the morning for assistance.

WBMS One Call 02-22-18

Yearbook Orders are due by February 26th.  You can either send the money to school with an order form that went home with report cards or you can order on-line by going to WBMS website then clicking on Spotlight News.  Thank you for your support of the Yearbook Staff at WBMS.

Scheduling meetings for 6th and 7th grade students will take place on Tuesday, February 27 and forms will be sent home with students for parents to sign.  All forms are due back to the school by no later than next Friday, March 2.

 - The West Branch Local School District  takes student and staff safety very seriously.

When a member of our staff or administrative team is notified or discovers a potential threat, it is investigated to the fullest extent possible.  When necessary, we consult law enforcement and  pursue legal action beyond enforcement of our own conduct code.

In light of recent events in our area and around the country, please help us by making sure that students, parents, or community members speak up and let us know about any concerns or potential threats that may exist.

We have dealt with some misinformation floating around today and I wanted to clear that up. At no time was a direct threat made to our buildings or students.


 - Secondly, there is a brief survey located on our website about our school calendar. Please take the time to log on and complete it. It can be found in the spotlight news section.

WBMS One Call 01-25-18

  • Report Cards will be sent home with students on Friday, February 2.  Students who have outstanding school fees or lunch charges in excess of $10 will not receive their report cards unless payment is received by Tuesday, January 30.
  • We will NOT be in school on Monday, January 29 due to a Teacher In-service day.
  • For parents of Title One students, there will be a Parent Meeting on Wednesday, January 31 from 3:00-3:30 in the MS Library.  We hope to see you there.
  • PIE will be selling Under Armor Spirit Wear February 1 through 19.  More information will be posted on the school website and information will be sent home with report cards next Friday.


WBMS One Call 12-14-17

Good evening, this is Mr. Kitzmiller calling with some important information about a few items.

Due to cancellations this week, the Band Concert will be held on Tuesday, December 19 at 6:15 in the middle school large gym.  The 7th and 8th grade choir concerts will be combined at 8:00 on Tuesday, December 19 at the HS Auditorium.  Band students need to arrive to the MS at 5:45 and choir students need to report to the HS at 7:30.

The Grandparent Christmas Lunch is cancelled due to the closing of school today and there is no make-up date for this due to full schedules and limited time. Students will enjoy the Christmas Lunch on Friday and are encouraged to dress up tomorrow.

The Stay-After is still on for Friday – tomorrow -  at the middle school.  Money and permission forms are due by noon Friday.  Hot Pots will also be here for students to make candles at a cost of $5 each.  Students staying after and attending the HS basketball game will meet their parents in the HS gym at 6:00.  Parents are responsible for the supervision of their students.  Students not staying for the game need to be picked up at 5:30 at the back of the MS.

WBMS One Call 12-12-17

The MS Band Concert that was scheduled for tonight is cancelled due to the weather.  The make-up date is yet TBD.  Band students need to report to the HS in the morning when they arrive to get their band instruments and music and bring it back to the MS.

Again, the band concert for tonight is cancelled.

Holiday Concerts are scheduled for December.  Be sure to check out the school website and calendar for details of the holiday events.

The PIE Fund-raiser pick-up for Yankee Candles will be Thursday, November 30 from 2:30-6:00 in the MS Library.  Thank you for your participation to help our students attend the year-end field trips.

Yankee Candles can be ordered on line through January 11.  Go to the MS website, Spotlight News, and search for the article about ordering Yankee Candles on line.

The Spirit Wear sale will end on Friday, December 1.  Be sure to send in your orders for West Branch items.


WBMS One Call – 11-19-17

Good evening, parents.  This is Roger Kitzmiller calling with a reminder that the PIE fund-raiser pick-up of Texas Roadhouse Rolls will be Monday, November 20 from 2:30-6:00 in the hallway outside the cafeteria.

Unfortunately, there is a delay in the delivery of the Yankee Candles that were to be here Monday.  We will keep you posted as to the date of the Yankee Candle pick-up.

The West Branch Spirit Wear sale is under way through December 1.  Forms were sent home with students and information is also located on the school website.  Orders will be delivered prior to Christmas.

WBHS -- Seniors -- 11/14/17

This is just a reminder that tomorrow night, November 15th, we are holding a financial aid presentation in the high school auditorium from 6:30-7:30.  The presentation will cover important FAFSA information as well as information regarding the Krizay Scholarship.  Again, this financial aid presentation will be held tomorrow from 6:30-7:30 in the high school auditorium.  We hope to see you there!

Also, if your senior has not ordered their cap & gown or graduation announcements, Jostens will be back one more time tomorrow, November 15th during the lunch periods by the gym.  Please have your senior turn in their order form and deposit to the Josten's representative on Wednesday.  You may also order online at Jostens.com  Thank you.  Have a great evening!


Damascus Elementary -- 11/6/17

Good Evening! It’s Mrs. Reash with a few quick reminders.

  • On Wednesday, there will be a PIE parent organization meeting at both 9am and 6pm. Hopefully you’re able to make it to one or the other.

  • Wednesday is also picture retake day.  If you’d like your child to have his or her picture retaken, please send the original packet back in, and the same size packet will be returned once the new pictures are ready. Students who were absent on picture day will have their pictures taken on Wednesday.  Order forms are available in the office or you can order online.

  • Our Food Drive is still going on this week through Friday.  ANY non-perishable food items that you’re able to donate would be greatly appreciated to help families in need during the holidays!

  • As the weather begins to get colder, please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather.  We will have outside recess (pending the windchill and precipitation).

Remember to be the reason for someone’s smile and have a wonderful evening!


WBHS -- 10/26/17

The state testing end of course retakes will be offered the second week of December.  The counseling department has issued letters to students who will need to retake one or more tests based upon previous scores.  Students received letters in home room today.  If your child received a letter, we encourage you to have a discussion with them tonight in regards to this information.  Thank you and have a good evening!

Attention Seniors -- the Senior Class Group picture will be taken on Friday at 7:25 in the morning.  Report to the old gym.  Please wear your green and white.  Students arriving late will not be in the picture.


WBMS 10-29-17 - PIE Fund-raiser

Hello, this is Roger Kitzmiller calling from West Branch Middle School to remind all parents and students that the PIE fund-raiser is ending.  For students who have not turned in the order forms and payment for the items sold, Monday is the final day to do that.

Thanks for your participation in this fund-raiser to help PIE provide transportation for student field trips this spring.


WBHS -- 10/19/17 -- Sophomore Parents & Students

This is a reminder that our Sophomore Class fundraiser forms and money need to be turned in to Mrs. Polinori by the end of the day on Monday.  Once the order is submitted, it takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks to receive the product.  This fundraiser supports next year's Junion Prom and the Class' Senior breakfast.  Thank you in advance for your efforts!

The 8th grade parent informational meeting for the Washington DC trip will be held on Monday, September 25 @ 7:30 in the middle school cafeteria.  Main Street Tours will present trip information and teachers will be available to receive your deposits.


Damascus Elementary -- 9/13/17

Hi Damascus Families. This is Mrs. Reash. We had two late buses tonight, 7 and 33, due to construction. They have left, but will be later than usual arriving home. Have a great night!

Class of 2018 Students -- 9/13/17

Just a reminder that Dunlap Photography will be taking photographs for the senior section of the yarbook today, September 13, between 7:00 -- 8:00 p.m. at Dunlap Photography, downtown Minerva.  There is no cost to appear in the senior section of the yearbook -- Dunlap Photography provides this service free.

Although we would like as many students to be photographed today, if you are unavailabe to attend, there will be one more opportunity on Wednesday, January 24 at the school.

To appear in the senior section, students MUST wear a long sleeve, solid color shirt -- no patterns or logs will be permitted.  If you do not have a long sleep, solid color shirt, Dunlap photography can provide black sweathers in various sizes for you to wear.

Knox Elementary -- 9/8/17

A few reminders about drop-off and pick-up. 

Students who eat breakfast may be dropped off at 8:40 a.m. Students who do not eat breakfast can be dropped off at 8:45 a.m. Please do not drop your child off earlier that these times. We do not have anyone to watch them.

District One Call -- 9/5/17

Good Evening Warrior Families and Welcome Back to the 2017-2018 School Year.

The Warrior Nation is looking for Efforts Today leading to Results Tomorrow!

School begins for students in grades 1-12 on September 6th.  Students in Kindergarten will complete their readiness assessments during designated appointment times and then will jump into a staggered start during the week of the 11th. Parents can check the Damascus or Knox Elementary web page or contact those schools for added clarification.

It is my sincere hope that you have a safe and productive school year. Bus riders - should be at their pick-up points at least 10 minutes before their designated time. Please be patient in the first 5-10 days of school as our drivers adjust to new routing, additional riders, and time interruptions. Our main objective is for safe and efficient movement of our students. Have a great year and as always - Go Warriors!


Welcome back Damascus Families! It’s Mrs. Reash, and I’m looking forward to another fantastic year at Damascus Elementary! I hope you’ve all had an amazing summer, and I can’t wait to hear about your adventures! I have some important information to share:

  • First off, class lists will be posted starting tomorrow, August 31st from 8:00-4:00. Lists will be located on the second set of doors in the entry way. Please refrain from taking pictures of the lists and posting them on social media for privacy reasons.  Requests were considered through April 28th, and no requests will be accepted at this time.

  • Open House will be on Tuesday, September 5th from 4-6pm.  Please bring in your supplies and come meet your teachers.  I know that they’re excited to meet you!

  • Car rider tags will be available at Open House and will be $4. These are for students who will be car riders every day. Please see Mrs. Sands to get yours.

  • Our school day will start at 8:55am and ends at 3:20pm. Students who are car riders may be dropped off starting at 8:40am.  Any student who arrives after 8:55 or leaves before 3:20 will receive a tardy.  Good attendance is essential to success!

  • Our first day of school is Wednesday, September 6th.

  • Kindergarten this year will have a staggered start, which is different than last year.  If you have a kindergartener, you should have received a letter that shared your KRA appointment time on either September 6th, 7th, or 8th.  Kindergarteners with last names that begin with A-J will come to school on September 11th, but not on September 12th. Kindergarteners with last names K-Z will come to school on September 12th, but not September 11th.  ALL Kindergarteners will then come to school on September 13th. If you have any questions, please call us at Damascus, and we will be more than happy to explain it to you!

  • Kindergarten parents-we know you and your little ones are excited and nervous about starting their first year of school. They will have lots of stories for you after their first few days, and while we understand that some students are apprehensive about coming to school, we ask that parents do not walk their children to the classroom as this makes the transition harder. We will have staff on-hand to help get your kiddos to the correct place and make them feel comfortable. Please feel free to take pictures in front of the building or during open house with teachers.

  • For the first few days of school, we ask that you have your child out at the bus stop about 10 minutes early to ensure a smooth pick-up. If you have any questions about busing, please contact the transportation department at (330) 938-6246.

WBMS One Call to 7th Graders 08-28-17

This is a reminder that we need to have immunization records on file for your 7th grade student by September 7th.  It is State law that all 7th graders need to have their Tdap and Meningococcal immunizations OR an exemption form turned in to the school office prior to the start of the school year.  If this paperwork is not turned in by September 24, your student will not be allowed to attend school after that date.

WBMS One Call 08-23-17

Grade 5 Open House is from 4:30-5:30 on Tuesday, August 29 followed by Orientation in the Cafeteria at 5:30.  All students and parents of 5th graders are encouraged to attend.

Chromebook pick-up will take place on Tuesday, September 5 between the hours of 11:00-1:00 and from 3:00-6:00 at the High School Field House.  The payment of $70 is due at the time of pick-up.

The first day of school is Wednesday, September 6 and students need to arrive to the building by 7:22.

Class of 2021
Mr. Coffee, Principal of West Branch High School is inviting you to our Freshmen Orientation Camp on Friday, August 25th beginning at 1:00 and ending at 4:00 p.m.  The day will be filled with various activities, fun, food and a West Branch t-shirt.  Most importantly, you will receive your schedule with locker information and have an opportunity to get acquainted with the building and meet some of our staff.  Please report directly to the auditorium at 1:00.  An informational meeting for parents will be held in the auditorium at 3:30 to discuss high school and answer questions.  All activities will conclude by 4:00.  Mark your calendar and don't miss this important day.  See you on Friday.  Go Warriors.

Welcome back to school.  We are looking forward to a great school year and I hope you are too.

Your schedule can be picked up in the High School Office on Friday, August 25th from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.  Only you or your parents or guardians are able to pick up your schedule.  You are not permitted to pick up anyone else's schedule.  You are also required to bring your schedule with you the first day of school.  Students who do not pick up their schedules should report to the library on the first day of school for instructions.

I hope you are doing well and have enjoyed your summer time.  The school year is approaching rapidly and I want to inform you that schedules will be available for pick-up on Friday, August 25 from 8:00-4:00 at the front of the middle school. 

For our new students to the building, we are having an Orientation on Tuesday, August 29 with an Open House from 4:30-5:30 followed by Orientation at 5:30 in the school cafeteria.  Parents are encouraged to attend.
