Knox Right to Read Week

During the entire week, we will be having our annual Buy One, Get One Free Bookfair.  The students will be able to purchase books during their regularly scheduled Library time or during a pre-selected time chosen by their teacher.  Take advantage of this great opportunity to stock up on books for summer reading at a very affordable price.  A flyer will be sent home with basic titles listed.

Each grade level will be choosing an underwater animal to “showcase” and their activities throughout the week will focus on that animal’s characteristics, habitats, facts, etc.  Then, on Friday, all students will get to learn about every animal that was chosen from each grade level.

A special event for students and Grandparents will be held on Wednesday, May 14th in the morning at the West Branch High School auditorium.  The Columbus Children’s Theatre will perform and grandparents are welcome to attend as well. The students will go directly to the high school on their bus and then their grandparents can meet them at 9:00 a.m. to enjoy the program.  Afterwards, students will be taken back to Knox by bus for a regularly scheduled day.

To make things a little more interesting for the students, we will be having a“Change Challenge” between the grade levels.  Students can bring in any loose change and drop it into their designated fishbowl to see which grade level collects the most change.  At the end of the week, the money will be totaled and used to sponsor a whale in our name here at Knox Elementary. How exciting is that!!!

To be more like the The Rainbow Fish, we thought it would be fun to dress in the colors of his scales.  These are the colors chosen:

Monday:  Ocean Blue                          TuesdaySunset Red                    WednesdayMermaid Purple  ThursdaySeaweed Green                Friday:  Nemo Orange

Last, but not least, the PTO is sponsoring a Read-A-Thon for students. Look for more information to follow from the PTO.

We are looking forward to a great week filled with lots of fun activities for the children as well as many learning experiences through it all.  Thank you in advance for your support!
