November to December Newsletter

Damascus Elementary School
November-December 2012
2012 Met 8 out of 8 State Indicators

Winter is Soon Approaching
The weather is quickly changing and weather appropriate clothing must be worn by all students. Children need to come to school with warm coats, gloves, hats, and boots. Students will participate in outdoor recess in temperatures that include wind chill above 20 degrees. If you are in need of warm winter clothing please contact Mrs. Umberger, Mrs. Wiant, or Mr. Bowen directly.

Conferences
Tuesday, November 20, 2012. The School year is passing by quickly and soon children will be receiving their first nine week report cards. Parents will be receiving a conference form if their child’s teacher is requesting a meeting for the 20th of this month. If you do not receive a form, but would like to meet, please do not hesitate to call and request a time from your child’s teacher. We will do our best to accommodate all parents.

Thanksgiving Feast
We greatly appreciate all of the planning and preparation for the much anticipated Thanksgiving Feast. Volunteers are welcome to purchase a meal through Mrs. Wutrick no later than the 11/14/12. Seating is limited during the lunch hours, but we will do our best to accommodate those who would like to visit their child during their assigned lunch time. Visitors will not be able to purchase a lunch on this day. We need to guarantee enough hot lunches, first for our students, then our working volunteers.

Special Thanks to our Volunteers
On behalf of all the teachers and students we would like to sincerely thank all parents and volunteers who participated in the October student school events.   As an organization the P.I.E. organized the Fall Fest, Grandparents’ Night, and the Book Fair which provided enjoyable experiences for our children. We sincerely appreciate all the support and dedication to our students here in the building. Thank you all for making our school a wonderful environment for children.

School Visitors and Student Pick-up
We want all parents to know they are always welcome in the building. If you would like to observe your child in class, please contact the teacher in advance. Also, anytime you are entering the building, you must stop at the school office. Visitors in our building must sign in and wear a name tag at all times. We need to have a record of the adults entering our building during the school day.

We are fortunate to have a wonderful secretary and front office staff. Please be respectful at the end of the day during pick-up. During this time our priority is to ensure all students are exiting safely with the appropriate designated parent. Special arrangements must be submitted prior to 2:30 p.m. end-of-day dismissal.
