Damascus Students Protect the Environment

Each class at the school sang a special Earth Day song for the rest of the school under the direction of Melissa Brand.

Interesting facts about Earth Day were read by members of the fifth-grade Environmental Club. Kim Lewis, a representative from the Green Team, attended the assembly and made two important announcements about the recycling programs in the school.

The students are involved in many different types of recycling programs.

Two of their programs are recycling phone books and aluminum cans. Damascus Elementary came in first and collected 3,424 pounds of phone books. In the can contest, Damascus came in second with 2,540 pounds.

"A special thank you to all of the students, staff and members of the community who donated recycled materials to the program," said teacher Sue Dattillio.
