Band Students Shine at Solo/Ensemble Contest
Congratulations to all of the West Branch Middle School Band students for their hard work and diligent preparation for the Ohio Music Education Association’sSolo and Ensemble Contest. The students received an amazing 18 “Superior” ratings and four “Excellent” ratings at the event on Saturday March 24th at Struthers High School!
The “Superior” soloist awards went to Lindsey Fugett, Keilah Mason, Amanda Dean, and Kassie Steed on Flute; Megan Winters, Michaela Huston, Brianna Long, and Erica Scarpitti on Clarinet; Kaylie Day on Bass Clarinet; Bobby Parsons on Bari Sax; Lauren Stitle on Trombone; and Justin Phillips on Tuba.
A “Superior” rating also was awarded to the following ensembles: the Flute Trio, the Flute Quartet, the Clarinet Quartet, the Clarinet Choir, the Saxophone Quartet, and the Brass Choir. The 7th grade Woodwind Trio brought home an “Excellent” rating.
Soloists who received the “Excellent” rating were Destanee O’Neil and Mike Jones on French Horn; and Derek Reed on Trombone.
The next opportunity to hear West Branch band students perform will be at the annual Festival of Bands on Tuesday April 17th at 7:00 PM in the High School Gym. The concert will feature performances by all of the West Branch bands in grades five through twelve including the Jazz Bands. Admission is free and open to the public.
