Social Media Safety - Please Read

October 3, 2018

Parents and Guardians:

Please be aware of a social media "game" that has been popping up around the country and world. The "Momo Challenge" is another social media threat our kids are facing. School internet filters are flagged any time threatening or suspicious words are searched from a student's school account. We have had at least one case of a student searching "Momo Challenge" that we want all parents to be aware of. While this particular case appears isolated, we felt all parents should be aware of this potentially dangerous "game."

Below are links to an article and video about this new threat (similar to the Blue Whale Challenge from the past few years). PLEASE monitor your child's internet and phone useage daily and discuss with them the appropriate use of technology. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our school counselors (Ms. Knowles, 330-938-4304 for grades 5-6 and Mrs. Ruark, 330-938-4308 for grades 7-8).

October is Depression Awareness Month

Mental Health continues to have major stigma associated with its name but is similar to any other illness. When we're sick, we go to the doctor and ask for help. Mental Health should be no different. Ohio has placed a great deal of resources on improving the mental health of all students through Project Aware Ohio. Click the icon below for information about the risks and protective factors of mental health.

West Branch partners with Pathway Counseling group. Pathway counselors are available right in the middle school building as a resource for our students when they are experiencing difficulty. Services range from one-on-one therapy to group counseling. Click their icon for more information.
