Students in Mrs. Lesnett’s Honors English class worked on a charity project throughout the second semester.  Each student chose a charitable organization and planned a course of action for fundraising.  All charities were presented in class along with a Public Service Announcement created by the students.  These six students were selected as finalists from their charity application which was submitted anonymously to a judge’s panel consisting of: Mrs. Susan Hartzell, gifted teacher; Mrs. Leigh Ann Martin, district librarian; and Dr. Scott Weingart, superintendent of West Branch Local Schools.  The top two finalists and their charities are Paige Walsh (Akron Children’s Hospital Foundation) and Kaylie Day (Stomp Out Bullying).  Mrs. Lesnett will contribute to the top two charities.  The leading fundraiser was Libby Brunner with donations of $866 towards her charity (Miracle for Madison and Friends – Spinal Muscular Atrophy). Overall, the class raised $2,926.64 for charity. The judges were so impressed with the two finalists that they contributed as well, bring the total collected to just over $3,000.00.
