Times Set for Start of School

It is important for students and parents to note the opening and closing times for all buildings in the West Branch Local School District for the 2012 – 2013 school year.
Classes for students in grades 1 through 12 will open on Wednesday, September 5, 2012. Classes at West Branch High School will begin at 7:45 a.m. and end at 2:50 p.m., while the Middle School schedule opens classes at 7:37 a.m. and dismisses at 2:45 p.m.   Classes at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center begin at 8:06 a.m. and dismiss at 2:20 p.m. Elementary classes at Damascus and Knox begin at 9:00 a.m. with dismissal at 3:30 p.m. All students may arrive between 8:45 and 9:00. Students who arrive after 9:00 are tardy for the day. Any elementary students eating breakfast may arrive and go to the cafeteria at 8:40. Parents of kindergarten students will receive a special mailing which outlines the schedule and starting times.
Registration and scheduling for pupils new to the system will continue at the Superintendent’s Office through Thursday, August 30, 2012. New pupils must bring a copy of their birth certificate, social security card, immunization record, proof of residency, and, if applicable, papers verifying child custody. No students will be registered from Friday, August 31 through the opening day of classes on Wednesday, September 5. Registration will resume on Thursday, September 6.
Bus schedules and routes have been condensed and may be different than last year. Students should be at their bus stops at least five to seven minutes earlier than their scheduled time at the end of last school year. Bus assignments will be distributed at Open House/Orientation (K – 8) and mailed with High School schedules. High School/Middle School routes will begin at approximately 6:30 a.m. with arrival at 7:25 a.m.   Career Center students will be picked up on regular high school routes and will then be transported by Buses 29 and 39 to the Mahoning County Career Center, which will leave the high school south parking lot at approximately 7:25 a.m.  Career Center students please note that your classes will begin on Tuesday, September 4. In order to ride the bus to the Career Center on Tuesday all students must provide their own transportation and arrive at the high school’s north parking lot prior to 7:25 a.m. with a return time of approximately 2:45 p.m. Normal busing to the Career Center will begin on Wednesday, September 5. Bus routes for grades K-4 will begin at approximately 7:50 a.m. with arrival at the elementary buildings at 8:40 a.m.
Applications for free and reduced price lunches will be distributed with the opening of school. Existing applications for returning students will be used until the new applications are reviewed. Cafeteria prices for this year are $2.00 for grades Kindergarten through Fourth and $2.25 for grades Fifth through Twelfth. Milk is 35 cents per carton. Reduced price lunches are 40 cents. Breakfast is also available at all schools. Breakfast is seventy-five cents, with the reduced breakfast for thirty cents.
School fees will be $15 for Kindergarten – Grade 4 and $20 for Grades 5 – 12. A letter regarding payment of fees will be sent home with each student at the beginning of school.
