Mrs. Lesnett’s Freshman Honors English students at West Branch High School recently completed their annual second semester Charity Project. Every student selects a charity of his/her choice and plans a course of action to raise money for that charity. At the end of the semester, students create a one minute public service announcement which they show to their class along with an oral presentation of their charity. All students complete an anonymous application and essay that explores the charity and its impact on their lives. Six finalists are selected and their applications submitted to a judges panel consisting of Mr. Brian Coffee, principal, and retired teachers Mrs. Christy Biery and Mrs. Susan Hartzell. The top three entrants are interviewed by the panel and the winning order selected. This year’s winners and charities include: Samantha Plocher in first place with Hospice of Dayton in memory of her aunt, Abie Davis in second place with Charity Ball that provides soccer balls around the world, and Mario Chick in third place with Austism Speaks. Mrs. Lesnett donates to their charities accordingly. Collectively, students in both classes have raised over $10,000 for charity this year.
